Director Daniel Sannwald – for all his work on M.I.A.’s Y.A.L.A., Kelela’s A Message, Hudson Mohawke’s Indian Steps – will forever hold a sanctuary in our hearts, and in the hearts of our descendants, generations hence. He’s the man whose Instagram bio reads “All is possible” and when we watch the trailer for his holographic video, Human Sanctuary, made for MoMu’s Game Changers exhibition, we really believe it, man. Featuring Belgian model Hannelore Knuts, choreography by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and a selection of Balenciaga achieve handpicked by none other than artistic director Demna Gvasalia (alongside pieces by Issey Miyake, Ann Demeulemeester, Maison Martin Margiela, Comme des Garçons and Gvasalia’s own Vetements), it is a suitably artistic production, placing the human body centre stage at the Antwerp museum’s exhibition. Daniel told us, “Working with so many wonderful people was such a nice experience; especially meeting Sidi. Like meeting an ocean which invited you to dive in and create something beautiful in togetherness.” Take refuge in it below.
Game Changers: Reinventing the 20th-Century Silhouette lasts from the 18 March to 14 August at MoMu Fashion Museum, Antwerp.
