During the 90s Melbourne, Australia was a haven for ravers. The city’s warehouse party scene was at its peak as thousands of party-goers and club kids expressed themselves through music and the iconic local move: the Melbourne Shuffle. In his new book Techno Shuffle Paul Fleckney charts the rise and fall of the Melbourne scene from tiny underground clubs to vast waterfront wonderlands. A highlight of the book is the original photographs, hyper-colour ravers clinging to plush toys or decked out in sportswear, a selection of which we’ve shared below.
‘Techno Shuffle: Rave Culture and the Melbourne Underground’ by Paul Fleckney is published by Melbourne Books and available for pre-order now .
