Young British designers and fashion brands were delivered some good news this week with the announcement that e-commerce juggernaut Farfetch.com will be partnering with the British Fashion Council‘s charitable trust. Each year the Fashion Trust awards a handful of the country’s most promising designers cash and mentoring in a bid to help them advance their brands, and the inclusion of the online fashion retailer will surely help to broaden the scope of assistance to the winners.
José Neves, Founder & CEO of Farfetch, commented that, “We hope that our team of experts across digital, e-commerce and global market expansion will prove invaluable to the designers we will be awarding grants to in May 2016.”
Last year £300,000 (almost AU$600,000) was split between nine designers: David Koma, Emilia Wickstead, Holly Fulton, Marios Schwab, Mother of Pearl, palmer//harding, Prism, Sibling and Sophia Webster with the funds being used in production and the development of physical and online stores. The 2016 designers will be announced on Tuesday 24th May.
