Spanning the entire gallery, this inaugural Triennial is a powerful overview of art and culture right now. And it's free.

Opening tonight, the NGV’s first Triennial exhibition is a gallery-wide show encompassing art, design and architecture. Featuring the work of 60 artists and designers from more than 30 countries, each has responded personally to a diverse range of contemporary issues which affect us all daily.

Within the gallery, you’ll enter worlds created by artists like Yayoi Kusama, who’s made a purpose-built apartment to be adorned with 3D flowers and flower stickers, as well as teamLab’s mirrored room, which reacts like water to movement, “creating digital whorls and ripples in their wake.” Meanwhile there are works commenting on the environment and others investigating the future of fashion or the curiosity of scent.

The exhibition also aims to stimulate conversation with audiences with a research lounge set up to act as an incubator for ideas, a forum for discussion and a stimulus for change. See below for a morsel of what’s in store.

The NGV Triennial will run from 15 December 2017 to 15 April 2018. Entry is free. See the website for full details.
