She founded Premier Model Management and signed the supers of the 90s, Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Cindy Crawford and Claudia Schiffer and now Carole White is opening up about the secrets behind 30 years of supermodel management in her new book Have I Said To Much? My Life In and Out of the Model Agency.
She’s always been outspoken, justifying the size 0 debate, speaking out against racism in the fashion industry, backing up possibly the most famous quote that’s ever slipped out of a models mouth; Linda Evangelista’s “We don’t wake up for less than £10,000 a day,” in Vogue October 1990, with White telling the Telegraph, “I could hold my nose and think of a fee,” and claiming her one regret was turning down Kate Moss because she was too short.
But in the latest round of promotion for her memoir, White told The Sunday Times that “the British are shit,” revealing her tactics for persuading the British models to follow her dreams for them (“You can see the world, make money, learn another language, you can end up living in New York or Paris, you might get to sleep with Leonardo DiCaprio,”) were far heavier than those for the girls from Russia or Siberia because apparently – being from the UK – they already had everything. And just as Naomi Campbell suggested the supermodels of the 90s trump today’s instagirls, so White claims that models such as Kendall Jenner are only being used because they’ve got exposure.
