Nostalgic and dreamlike, Theo Wenner’s fall/winter 16 campaign for Chloé reads like a modern love poem. Shot in idyllic, natural light against the beautiful climes of Puglia — and using a soft, grainy film — Wenner plays around with light and shadow, artfully cropping each image to create a sense of drama and mystery to an already intimate narrative.
“There is such a bold sense of duality in this collection — that natural toughness and fragility of women side by side,” explains Creative Director Clare Waight Keller. “We wanted to explore that through the campaign images with an ambiguous and cinematic atmosphere that allows each girl to emerge as a strong character. She is nonchalant, but also quite fearless — and very much alive!”
Dressed in sumptuous gowns, shearling outerwear, and motocross trousers, all in neutral, warm tones, the girls — including i-D cover girl Frederikke Sofie — make like ethereal beings, throwing their arms up in wistful gestures. How romantic!
