‘game of thrones’ is getting a secret art exhibition in nyc

Tristan Eaton, CYRCLE, and Pop Chart Lab are turning the Lower East Side into the Eighth Kingdom of Westeros.

Before Game of Thrones season six premieres this Sunday, fans will get a chance to revisit some of the series’ most iconic past scenes. And we’re not talking about binging past episodes on your laptop. HBO has recruited five artists to create an interactive art experience bringing the Seven Kingdoms to life as Art the Throne. Art/clothing collective CYRCLE have envisioned a massive wooden crown, while Brooklyn infographics geniuses Pop Chart Labs have transformed the Red Wedding massacre into a light-up manuscript of graphs and symbols. Illustrator Marcos Chin and paper sculptor Jeff Nishinaka have interpreted Brienne of Tarth and a White Walker respectively. Los Angeles street artist Tristan Eaton has created a large-scale painting of Daenerys Targaryen, Mother of the Dragons, in various shades of green.

It all goes down on New York’s Lower East Side tomorrow evening, but there’s a catch: the exhibition is invite only. So much for street art being democratic.

Don’t completely despair if you can’t manage to infiltrate the Eighth Kingdom tomorrow. The works will also be hosted online in the form of video diaries, with the artists explaining the concept behind their works. Watch CYRCLE discuss their design-meets-fine-art hybrid approach below, and tune in to HBO on April 21 for an exclusive video with more details on the exclusive affair.
