When Georgina Goodman — the footwear designer who created Alexander McQueen’s iconic Armadillo shoes — spoke to Caryn Frankin for i-D last November about her incredible story of fairytale success and the global expansion of her eponymous label… and then the gut-wrenching, heart-breaking destruction of her brand, the loss of her name, and finally the opening of a fresh new chapter, we couldn’t have predicted that this rollercoaster experience could come in exhibition form.
As Beyoncé would say, Goodman took the lemons she was served and made lemonade, creating Shoe Story, “a tale of lust and loss told through a narrated visual journey of shoe sculptures and objects” (and fine art prints) hosted at Blacks private members club in Soho — open to the public during London Craft Week, 3 — 7 May. With demonstrations from the resilient, brilliant designer herself, we’ll be hot footing it down to Soho before the pop-up studio and installation closes on Saturday.
Georgina Goodman’s A Shoe Story is open to the public 10 — 6 at Blacks in Soho until Saturday 7 May.
