After emerging from a creative lockdown spent in Los Angeles with The House of Avalon (“I’ve been using this time to become closer to the people I love and to tap into my art form in a way that I did when I first started out,”) Gigi Goode is back on her rollerblading, merch-illustrating, tree-climbing bullshit. She also took time out to dispense words of wisdom and guide i-D (and one lucky teenage fan) through the signature Gigi beauty look. In the latest episode of D-i-Y, Gigi and 18-year-old India paint their faces together over Zoom while discussing coming out, gaining independence and makeup as therapy. The ultimate big sister.
Wondering what kind of music soundtracks Gigi’s day-to-day? The drag superstar just put together a one-hour-37-minute-long playlist of dreams especially for you. “This playlist is pure chaos,” she tells i-D. “Literally zero rhyme or reason was put into it, and it’s intended to be shuffled every time you listen! It’s just songs that make me feel something when I hear them: some pop icons, some lesser known artists, and some classics that my mom forced into me at a young age!”
Expect deliciously eclectic back to back combos such as Shania Twain’s “You’re Still The One” into MUNA’s “I Know A Place”; Dua Lipa’s “Hallucinate” into Belinda Carlisle’s “Heaven is a Place on Earth”; and Madonna’s “True Blue” into Jake Shears’ “Creep City” into Don McLean’s “Vincent”. Oh and there’s a whole lot of ABBA too – Gigi is Scandinavian after all!
