It’s safe to call Kenzo‘s creative directors Carol Lim and Humberto Leon movie buffs. Back in 09, the pair tapped longtime pal Spike Jonze for a collaborative Where the Wild Things Are Opening Ceremony collection, while more recently, iconic surrealist David Lynch teamed up with the design duo for Kenzo’s fall/winter 14 show. This morning, WWD reported that Lim and Leon have tapped New Queer Cinema pioneer Gregg Araki for a collaborative short film.
The Doom Generation and White Bird in a Blizzard director will write and direct Here Now, an original short film featuring Kenzo’s men’s and womenswear fall collections. The paper reports that an exciting young cast will feature in the five minute film, including former Gleek Jacob Artist, Jane Levy and Grace Victoria Cox, as well as Araki alum Nicole Laliberte. “The people in my movies are fascinating to me. It’s almost like dating in a way: you need to have a chemistry with people. I’ll meet actors that I’m just not interested in, but then someone will come along and I’ll be really compelled.” Araki told i-D ahead of White Bird in a Blizzard‘s release last year.
The full film will premiere on Kenzo’s website on July 4, but the first trailer will be unveiled tomorrow at the Grand Palais in Paris.
