Haider Ackermann’s name has often been mentioned in conversations about fashion’s top jobs. He was among the designers believed to replace Galliano at Dior, and Martin Margiela after he left his namesake brand. Karl was even tipping Ackermann as his successor at one point. Now, he’s landed a post at one of the most historic menswear maisons: Berluti.

The house was founded in 1895, but only recently moved into ready-to-wear — under the direction of Alessandro Sartori in 2012. Earlier this year, it was confirmed that Sartori will return to Zegna, replacing the departing Stefano Pilati. Haider will make his debut at Berluti with the fall/winter 17 collection, showing in Paris Menswear Week next January.

Ackermann graduated from the Royal Academy in Antwerp in 1994, and started his own label in 2003 after a stint working for designers like John Galliano, Wim Neels, Bernhard Willhelm and Patrick Van Ommeslaeghe. More recently, his relaxed but opulent approach to design has earned him fans as diverse as Kanye West and Tilda Swinton.

“I am very honored to join Berluti,” Ackermann said in a statement, “This house stands for the essence of luxury menswear and embracing this new adventure inspires me.” “I am very happy to welcome Haider at Berluti,” Antoine Arnault, Berluti’s CEO added. “His talent and creative commitment make him the perfect choice for this position. I am sure that his vision will bring a unique opportunity to Berluti.”
