Picture this! You’re a solo artist and songwriting gun-for-hire who’s worked with the likes of Solange, Kylie Minogue, Britney Spears, and Carly Rae Jepsen, and you’re approached by post-punk icons Blondie to write a song for their upcoming eleventh album, Pollinator. What do you do? Well, you write a song that sounds exactly like Blondie, of course. Penned by both Debbie Harry and the ever-reliable Dev Hynes, new single “Long Time” plays out like a franchise reboot of the band’s disco enthused Parallel Lines-era. The guitar is reassuringly Chris Stein. The drums reassuringly Clem Burke. The bass — well, the bass is played by Leigh Foxx. But it sure as hell sounds like Gary Valentine. It is, readers, more Blondie than Blondie. Like that Jimmy Fallon impression of Bob Dylan, but in a good way. Take a listen below.
