Vetements’ $250 DHL T-shirts have become ubiquitous since debuting on the Paris runway last October. Whether the repurposed DSNY uniforms that Heron Preston presents this New York Fashion Week resonate the same way remains to be seen, but the streetwear-savvy Kanye West consultant (and Nike visionary) has high hopes for the new fashion line he’s dubbed UNIFORM. According to the New York Post, it’s a legit collaboration with New York’s Department of Sanitation and will be shown at the Spring Street Salt Shed on September 7 — the same day that Kanye will present the fourth season of his Yeezy brand.

This is hardly Heron’s first recycling rodeo. The hybebeast hero is known for his re-appropriated Givenchy Rottweiler T-shirts, logo-plastered NASCAR ones, and fake tour merch advertising Lil Kim and Morrissey shows — all of which spawned frantic eBay searches and Reddit posts as kids tried to get their hands on the covetable threads. His more recent venture, HPC Trading Co, stocks hats emblazoned with the Russian word for “style” and airbrushed workwear jackets retired by Vetements collaborators Carhartt.

The DSNY collaboration, however, is slightly less charted territory for Heron. He will be creating UNIFORM from used clothing that would otherwise be sent to decompose in a landfill. Each unisex piece shown on the runway will feature chunks of DSNY green and orange plus silk-screened patterns and patches, making it all totally unique.

Tickets for Heron’s show are available for a not-so-democratic $2,030 — but proceeds are going to a new foundation for New York’s garbage workers plus an “educational museum” featuring vintage sanitation equipment. And if recent history is to be trusted, we wouldn’t be surprised if they all sold out.
