Nearly two months after fashion’s happiest awards event, the Council of Fashion Designers of America inducted its newest batch of members. The presiding council added a diverse group of 40 designers to its already impressive roster, which includes American all stars like Marc Jacobs and Proenza Schouler’s Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez. This year’s crop of newcomers is the largest in the organization’s 53 year history, and brings its total membership up to 508.
The CFDA rookies represent a slice of America’s newest and coolest designers. i-D favorite and recent Swarovski Award recipient Shayne Oliver of Hood By Air headlined this year’s pledge class. And the council also tapped recent Woolmark Prize winners Siki Im and Tanya Taylor to join the illustrious club. Jewelry designer and artist John Brevard and womenswear designer Rosie Assoulin are also CFDA newbies.
American fashion icon Diane Von Furstenburg was unanimously voted in as the CFDA’s new chairwoman, and CFDA CEO Steven Kolb took her place as president of the council. Induction into the CFDA is like joining American Fashion’s Hall of Fame. So congrats to the class of 2015!
