“Voting in an election is the peaceful overthrow of government,” says Stacey Abrams in i-D’s new film, where we meet the young voters who helped to flip Georgia blue. In November 2020, Joe Biden became the first Democratic presidential candidate to win the state of Georgia since 1992. The Democrats had already secured a majority in the House of Representatives, but didn’t yet know whether the new President would have to contend with a Republican majority in the Senate. With all eyes on Georgia, i-D travelled to Atlanta on the day of the decisive Senate runoff elections.

Now, with Democratic Senators Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock installed in Washington D.C, and Biden already undoing Trump’s policies, we see the results of that overthrow, despite the various forces who tried to make the transition less than peaceful.

Watch the video below to hear from local creative, Hawa Camara, and other young people who used their vote to make history.
