Today we enter the sound of a duo that have recently joined the Defected Records artillery. Making their mark on Defected sister label DFTD, the side devoted to the deeper, more dance floor productions, ANOTR have stormed in with three bangers for their Strobe EP – a collection of tracks that we’ve heard set floors alight over the course of the summer during Defected’s Amnesia Ibiza residency. This summer has seen Jesse and Oguz put in a healthy balance of work and play, spending time soaking in sounds in clubs across the world and working hard on their weighted tech house sound. Now the duo step into the mix exclusively for i-DJ with this huge i-D of almost 100% exclusive ANOTR material. This ones big, get to know.
What are the top three tracks getting heavy rotation in your sets?
Ian Jay & Matt William, Freaks That Flow. ANOTR, Want My Love. Sidney Charles, Power of the Underground.
What’s the most hedonistic party you’ve ever been to?
Last summer we went to Ibiza and went to Defected in the House at Amnesia. We literally entered the venue during a sit down. So from the first moment on we really felt the party.
What’s the most phenomenal clubbing venue in the world and why?
We really like Ushuaia and Amnesia. Those were the venues we really had great time at while the sickest artists were doing their jobs. We have so many good memories of that place, that we would really love to play there some day.
If you could go back to back with any DJ, at any venue, who would it be and why?
We would really love to play back to back with a DJ like Armand van Helden. He’s been a big influence in our taste of music when we were growing up and his music still sounds so good.
History is made at night… What was the best night of your life?
Probably the day we found out our tracks were signed to Defected or our last New Year’s Eve in Nijmegen. We had a cool gig and were surrounded by good people and good friends 🙂
What’s the most debauched thing you’ve ever seen on the dance floor?
Sorry but we don’t have a clue what debauched is to be honest…
What would your dream rider consist of? What does your actual rider consist of?
Something nice to drink and a winning lottery ticket! At the moment we have nothing special. Just some gin and tonic, some beers, some coins and of course the equipment we expect to be at the venue.
What’s your favourite party anthem of all time?
We don’t really have a favourite party anthem, but our own track Strobe works well every time.
What producer are you predicting big things from this year?
At the moment we really love the upcoming work of Tommy Vercetti. He’s doing really great and has got a lot of cool stuff coming up!
Where do you go when the record ends and the lights come on?
Sometimes if there’s a cool after party we go there, other times we just rather go straight to our beds or to our studio.
What track would you end the night on when everyone’s still awake and it’s time to go to sleep?
The Dosem remix of Do You Feel Me works well every time we play it as a last track. Or sometimes just something out of the ordinary closing track, some deep/chilled down track.
What’s your party trick?
Keep the energy in the mix. Always keep the people curious for what is to come next.
Finish the sentence, the music sounds better with…
Good friends, good people and a goooood soundsystem.
