We tend to like a lot of things Jimmy Asquith’s Lobster Theremin label chuck out. Purveyors of the kind of unconventional dance music we’re fans of here at i-D, it’s a fine line that continues today with this week’s i-DJ from DJ Sonnikku. The rather exotic moniker of a bloke called Tony from the Midlands, his latest EP, the very fun All My Friends, features a trio of NYC-inspired house and Italo-tinged jams, all of which seem to draw from a childhood obsession with Sega games as much as they do the New York club scene.
“I only have two EP’s out right now but I’ve been busy making so much more,” he tells us. “I put together a 100% Sonikku Mix to show what I’ve been up to and what to expect in the future. My influences have gotten more Italo-disco and pop focused, the aim is to make the dance-floor a camp, HI-NRG setting.” He certainly succeeded there. Take in these very Ryan Lo spring/summer 15 images and press play.
