The Hawley Arms, the boozy epicentre of noughties Camden, was just one of the local buildings to be splashed with unseen images of singer Amy Winehouse on Saturday. The photos, which were taken by Amy’s friend Charles Moriarty in 2003 when Amy was 19, were also projected onto buildings on Jamestown Road, Camden Town Tube Station, Chalk Farm Road, Camden Lock and Inverness Street. It was all part of a promotional push for today’s release of the Asif Kapadia’s Amy documentary, which just picked up Best Documentary at the Hollywood Film Awards, but whilst there was commercial impetus behind the project, the sight of a fresh-faced Amy hovering over her favourite borough was nonetheless a mixture of stirring, saddening and haunting.
