Continuing its tradition of featuring young actresses whose stars are on the rise, Miu Miu’s latest campaign features i-D faves India Salvor Menuez and Julia Garner, alongside Millie Brady and Matilda Lutz. They follow in the footsteps of Elle Fanning, Léa Seydoux, Adèle Exarchopoulos, Stacy Martin, Mia Goth, Lupita Nyong’O and Elizabeth Olsen among others — all of whom have gone on to do big things.
This is actually 21-year-old New Yorker and Grandma star, Julia Garner’s second foray into the fashion world, having made her debut in the Balenciaga show last October, amidst some very tall models and fellow actresses Zoe Kravitz, Sophie Kennedy-Clark, Bella Heathcote and Nicola Peltz. “We had to walk at a fast pace and the models with their long legs were walking so fast in front of me and behind me,” Garner told i-D earlier this year. “In rehearsal on the runway I had a Derek Zoolander moment where I couldn’t turn left. I did the whole blue steel thing when I couldn’t turn left!”
Garner stars alongside performance artist and actress India Salvor Menuez, who had a cameo in Amazon Prime hit series Transparent, and who’s new film White Girl premieres at Sundance in a few weeks. “I always thought of myself as just an artist, but that could mean anything,” Menuez said. “The more I’ve stepped into filmmaking, acting or writing for film, suddenly I’m presented in the spotlight as an actress.” Pride and Prejudice and Zombies actress Millie Brady, and star of The Ring remake, Matilda Lutz, also star in the campaign.
Shot by Steven Meisel in New York, the spring/summer 16 campaign showcases Miuccia Prada’s colorful, textured wares against a neutral background, making the characters wearing them stand out even more.
