In Vietnam today, the pressure to conform is thrown at young people from all angles. With sixty percent of the population under 30 and most living with their parents until marriage, the underground metal scene provides a welcome means of escape for the country’s passionate youth. In keeping with the DIY spirit of these sporadic gatherings, photographer Neil Massey’s work is shot on black and white film. He documents the raw, brutal energy of the scene and the hardcore group who love it.
