If you like your vampires beautiful, jaded and horny with a lot of homoeroticism thrown then, then boy have we got good news for you.

The TV reboot of Interview With The Vampire – adapted from Anne Rice’s best-selling novel of the same name but most fondly remembered for its lavish 1994 adaption starring Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt and a very young Kirsten Dunst – has found its leading man.

Interview is the first in a series of Vampire Chronicles, following the vampire Lestat de Lioncourt, a French nobleman who is turned into a vampire in the 18th century. Throughout the novels, he encounters a breadth of other supporting characters including his sometimes-boyfriend, sometimes-enemy Louis and the queen of all vampires, Akasha.

It’s been announced that British actor Sam Reid has been cast as Lestat in AMC’s rebooted adaption of the novel and film. He follows in the footsteps of Tom Cruise, who originated the role on-screen in the 1994 film before being replaced by Stuart Townsend for the less-well-received 2002 sequel Queen of the Damned, which starred Aaliyah in her final on-screen appearance.

The series was officially greenlit by AMC in June, and will consist of an eight-episode first series with an eye to debut in 2022. But the chances are this is not just a one-and-done deal, since AMC actually has the rights to all of Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles books, so the casting could be seen as the first of several long-term investments if the first series is a success.

Interview With The Vampire is the first introduction to Lestat through the eyes of his lover Louis, who employs a modern-day journalist to tell the story of how the two first met, how Lestat turned Louis into a vampire and the circumstances surrounding the pairs centuries-long separation.

Later books in the series deepen both Lestat and Louis’ backstories, while also filling out a wider mythology around the creation of vampires that will be very…shall we say interesting to see on-screen.

Basically – Interview With The Vampire is a modern horror classic, and you should be very excited that vampires this gay are going to get re-visited through a modern-day lens. Horny undead gays being messy! Yay!
