In the Southern Hemisphere, no one dreams of a White Christmas. So we headed out to see what people are doing instead.

What do you do?
I’m a musician and sound designer.

What are you wearing?
A kurta pajama set I had made this year. Linen and raw silk are good for this heat. Eighties style Adidas superstars. Tulsi Mala necklace from a holy village in India.

Do you celebrate Christmas?
Yeah, my mother cooks up a huge vegetarian feast: lasagna, deep fried paneer skewers, pizza breads and a whole bunch of other crazy stuff. Someone usually cries during lunch. Everyone is wearing those paper hats.

Do you get excited about it?
Yeah. I love my family and I’m a firm believer in the power of the Christmas spirit.

What was the best christmas you ever had?
Last Christmas was nice. I chopped a branch off a tree and put it up. We made Bjork baubles.

Best present you ever received?
Being in the presence of people I love is the best gift I could ask for.

Best thing you ever gave anyone?
I used to do Christmas mix CDs and give them to my friends. I think they were pretty cool.

Christmas survival advice?
Listen to Handel’s Messiah. Avoid the malls. Listen to River by Joni Mitchell.
