What could make 2018 better than 2017? Less Nazis on Twitter/the entire world? A bank holiday for Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding, as we deserve? More Issa Rae shows? Well, at least one of those things are promised, kind of. Fresh off the back of the whirlwind success of her show Insecure, Issa and HBO are collaborating on a production deal that promises two new shows from her in the near future. Specifically, both a half-hour comedy and an hour-long drama are being developed, with Issa executive producing both projects.
The shorter comedy in question is Him or Her, a single camera show which follows the dating life of a bisexual black man in his search for love. The longer show, Sweet Life, is a coming-of-age drama about privileged teens growing up in LA, “set in the black Beverly Hills of Windsor Hills”, and will also have Issa on board as a writer, working with Scandal producer Raamla Mohamed.
And of course, she’ll be working on the third series of Insecure at the same time. While Insecure will return for season three in 2018, there’s, as yet, no date set for the release or Him or Her and Sweet Life. But at least it gives us more Issa Rae to look forward to, and that’s always a good thing.
