We called Vince Staples’ Prima Donna EP one of 2016’s best, and we really meant it. But an EP, by nature, is never going to be long enough once you become obsessed. We’ve played his killer debut Summertime 06 over and over too. The i-D office needs new material quite desperately, and thankfully, we’re about to get it.
Big Fish Theory, the new project, will drop this Friday at 12AM, precisely. Vince isn’t really one to jump through media hoops and build hype, so there are few clues to what the record will hold. As he told us around the release of Prima Donna, “I’m on this thing where I’m not telling anyone anything. I think it’s rude to tell someone how to perceive something that’s up to their interpretation.” We do have a Big Fish Theory cover, which the rapper posted to Instagram earlier this week. It’s a goldfish in a too-small tank. We’d wager that’s a metaphor.
