J Hus is back, y’all. Marking his only UK festival appearance this season, Lovebox festival in London has just announced that Hus will be joining the illustrious Friday line-up on i-D stage!
Since his breakout hit Dem Boy Paigon, Newham boy J Hus has grown to become one of UK’s most exciting grime MCs, melding genres like bashment and afrobeat into something golden and unique.
His debut album, 2017’s critically acclaimed Common Sense, only built on this, with Hus telling i-D at the time: “I knew when I came out I wanted to make music that meant something, that lifted the spirit. I don’t want to just be the guy who makes wavy tunes for the club. I love that too, but I wanted a balance. I want to be the most diverse act, I want to be that all-round guy.”
With that album selling over 100,000 copies, landing at Number 6 on the UK charts and after he recently shared the stage with Drake, heading to Lovebox feels like the next step.
Joining him on Friday are recent i-D cover star Solange, Cypress Hill, who will be performing Black Sunday in full, 2 Chainz, Loyle Carner, Kaytranada, slowthai, Solomun, Green Velve and loads more. This day of excellence will be followed by Saturday’s line-up, which features headliner Chance the Rapper, Giggs, Brockhampton, H.E.R. and Lizzo. Taking place on 12 + 13 July, Lovebox will again be hosted at its new home of Gunnersbury Park. Tickets for the festival are available now at loveboxfest.com/tickets. See you down the front!
