A month after she shared her first single in six years, a soft and slinky R&B jam called No Sleeep, Janet Jackson has debuted a suitably soft and slinky video. It finds the singer holed up in a super-luxe modern pad while nighttime rain patters gently against her window pane: “plush”, a word she uses in the song, is written in the condensation.
Longtime Janet fans will especially enjoy glimpses of what look like photographs from her childhood, blown up against her bedroom wall, and a sweet moment on the staircase where she seems to be tipping a cap – quite literally – to late her brother Michael. Towards the end of the video, she’s joined in her crib by J.Cole, who has added a rap to what is being called the “album version” of No Sleeep. That album doesn’t have a name yet, but Janet has promised that details “will be revealed very soon”. Watch this space.
