Lynsey Addario is the Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist who’s travelled to the most dangerous places in the world, risking her own life time after time to document those of others living under oppression in war-stricken countries. From America’s invasion of Afghanistan post-9/11 to the genocide in Darfur to the women who had been raped in the Congo, Addario saw and raised awareness of some of the most inhumane goings-on in the world, including her own torment at the hands of pro-Quaddafi forces in Libya when she was one of four New York journalists kidnapped for six days during the civil war.
When an excerpt of her memoir It’s What I Do: A Photographer’s Life of Love and War, was published in The New York Times Magazine last month, studios, directors and actresses grappled over the rights to translate it onto the big screen. According to Hollywood whispers, Working Title wanted it for Reese Witherspoon, Darren Aronofsky wanted to make it with Natalie Portman, Margot Robbie was eyeing up the part and The Weinstein Company were after it for George Clooney and Grant Heslov.
