Believe it or not, perennial cool kid Jeremy Scott turns 40 this year, and will celebrate his brand’s 20th anniversary in 2017. To commemorate the milestone, Texas will bestow upon The People’s Designer a gift made to be shared — a retrospective of his fashions at the Dallas Contemporary museum. Scott has finally “agreed” to the exhibition, reports WWD, after Dallas Contemporary executive director Peter Doroshenko first approached him last year about doing the show.
“It’s going to be my 20th anniversary next year, so to have the Contemporary do an exhibition of my work is a very exciting and thrilling moment,” said Scott at a Dallas signing for his Jeremy Scott coffee table book. “It’ll have things from my entire career. We’re still figuring out exactly how we want to use the space. Right now I have the opportunity [to use all 26,000 square feet], but I’m not sure.”
The Texas cultural and commercial hub was an enticing location for the pop culture-obsessed rebel, who now helms Moschino on top of his own namesake brand. “Suddenly Dallas has become a big part of my life, and now I feel like I’m part of the fabric of the community here,” he said. “There is a lot of glamor and fun, and that is nice because sometimes things can be too staid and boring. People really give a little gusto and I like that.”
The exhibition will open at some stage during 2017. There’s no word yet regarding which of his iconic creations will be on display. But having outfitted everyone from Malgosia Bela to Miley Cyrus to the MTV Moonman, you can guarantee it’ll be quite the trip.
