kate miller: music to… travel to

Inspired by changing landscapes, Kate's latest mix samples sounds from Japan, Africa, Australia, Norway and beyond.

Kate Miller‘s weekends are usually spent in clubs, not an unusual fate for a DJ who splits her time between Melbourne and Berlin. But recently she’s found that when the sun begins to rise her thirst for bass-heavy beats recedes. Lately, she’s been turning to new sounds, scales, instruments and time-signatures found in different landscapes.

She’s created a mix inspired by her many travels, sampling tunes from Japan, Africa, Australia, Norway and beyond. She describes it as a “journey from the exotic, calming soundscapes into the more rhythmic dance patterns we all love.” For fans of Kate’s more traditional club inspired work don’t worry, she’s never away from the party, “it doesn’t take long until a certain rhythm, drum-hit or vocal sample excites me enough to crave that beat again.”
