Taylor Swift is the queen bee of celebrity friendship. But Alexander Wang is its new king. To celebrate his brand’s 10-year anniversary, the designer is partnering with youth-focused charity DoSomething.org, and he’s rounded up 39 (three nine) powerful friends to help him.
Today, the brand released a new campaign to promote the limited-edition hoodies and T-shirts Wang has produced for the organization (each one printed with “Do Something” in bold all-caps). The black-and-white images, shot by Steven Klein, feature an alphabet of celebrities from A$AP Rocky, Beth Ditto, Cara Delevingne and Daria through to The Weeknd and Yeezy. Other i-D favorites include Alice Glass (looking moody and amazing in white ankle socks and oversized hoodie), Grimes and models Lara Stone, Anna Ewers, Gemma Ward and eternal goddess Lauren Hutton.
In a video statement yesterday, Wang explained that “DoSomething.org is a really important charity because it really gives a lot of the youth out there the platform to explore their interests and hobbies and to get them to think outside the box.” The organization currently has over 4 million members worldwide, who, according to its website, “tackle campaigns that impact every cause, from poverty to violence to the environment to literally everything else. Any cause, anytime, anywhere.”
This isn’t the first time Alex has chosen to use his clothes to promote change. Last year, the designer’s “P6” beanies backed the organization Principle 6’s campaign to promote nondiscrimination at the Olympic Games – further proof that doing good is always a good look.
