Nearly twenty years after mega-blockbuster Titanic careened onto our cinema screens, Kate Winslet has admitted what fans have always known to be true: there was space on that floating bit of door for two.

In perhaps the most heart-wrenching scene of the film, lovers Rose (Winslet) and Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) are floating adrift of the sunken cruise liner, with Rose perched on a door that’s acting as a raft while Jack freezes his butt off in the water. As Jack drifts into unconsciousness, Rose utters the immortal line, “I’ll never let you go,” right before unceremoniously dumping him into the deep dark sea.

Looking back over Rose’s chilly raft-side manner, Winslet admitted, “I think he could have actually fit on that bit of door,” during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. Speaking about the ongoing legacy of the film, she added, “People are always so excited to see Leo and myself in the same space, which at the end of the day, that’s so lovely, isn’t it?… It’s been 20 years and people still get such a kick out of it. It’s really quite endearing.”

“We do laugh about it,” she continued. “We were giggling about it that night. I was like, ‘Oh my God, can you actually believe it that people still get so overwhelmed by the Jack and Rose thing?’.” Some would say the level of attention is a little — ahem — overboard.
