In news that is both heartwarming and totally unsurprising, the brilliant Kehlani has been working on a tech startup called FLORA. The health and wellness oriented project just received a $50,000 cash injection curtesy of Backstage Capital, a two-year-old venture capital firm which exclusively invests in startups headed by queer people and people of colour.

“VERY honoured to announce our link up with @arlanwashere @ Backstage Capital,” the artist wrote in an Instagram post, “I’ve slightly mentioned my interest in tech, yearning to bridge the gap between my activism and career in a fresh new way and this is it. I cant wait to share this idea, I haven’t believed in something like this in a while.”

FLORA is a fairly vague offering at the moment. As per TechCrunch, it promises to offer “curated green content” to Kehlani’s target audience, 16 to 25-year-olds. So… an app? A magazine? Both rolled into one? Something more? We don’t have to wait long to find out, because Kehlani’s unveiling the project this weekend at AfroTech, a summit billing itself as the largest Black tech conference in Silicone Valley.
