It’s a bittersweet moment when something that means so much to you gets its final instalment: the last episode of your fave TV show, a designer’s final collection, or, in today’s case, the closing record of Kid Cudi’s Man On The Moon trilogy. A decade on from the release of parts one and two — projects that undoubtedly helped a while generation cope with depression thanks to Cudi’s openness about his own mental health issues — Man On The Moon III: The Chosen is out now.
The long-awaited album, technically Cudi’s seventh, consists of eighteen tracks including features from Skepta, the late Pop Smoke and Phoebe Bridgers. It’s the latter collaboration, a song called “Lovin’ Me” that we’re obsessed with and which you’ll find opening this week’s i-D playlist.
Also out this week, as anyone who exists on the internet will be well aware of, is Taylor Swift’s unexpected second album in five months. Hailed some kind of Hanukkah miracle (hello Haim collab), evermore is a beautiful record whose track “coney island”, featuring The National is a real standout. Then there’s James Blake, who has put together a little EP of covers for us all — many of which fans will have seen him perform across a series of lockdown livestreams — including a seriously nice rendition of Billie Eilish’s “when the party’s over”.
Channel Tres put out a well-named mixtape, i can’t go outside, today too. There are features from Tyler, the Creator and Tinashe, and of course we recommend you listen to the whole thing. There’s also exciting new music from Cosima, Fana Hues, Gracie Abrams, daine, Scintii, Julia Jacklin, AUGUST 08, Kamaiyah, Ashnikko ft. virtual Japanese popstar Hatsune Miku(!) and a whole lot more. Enjoy!
