kiko kostadinov focuses on function for spring/summer 17

Fresh from catching the collective eye during CSM's MA show back in February — and with a number of sell-out collaborations with streetwear giant Stussy under his utility belt already — Kiko Kostadinov proves why he's a name you should know.

“There is a lot of structure to be built as a brand in a short period of time,” Kiko Kostadinov explained in an interview with i-D back in April. “But I’m more than excited to begin showing on my own.” Keen to “subvert ideas of utilitarian dress,” the 26-year-old Bulgarian-born, London-based design talent focused on function as he introduced his anti-decorative approach to LC:M for the first time.

“The actual utilitarian clothing references are becoming part of my work as it feels natural at the moment. Some sort of homage to working with my dad since I came to London.” Reimagining the presentation space as a fluorescent lamp lit warehouse, Kiko stripped away needless adornment and focused on function with a concise, carefully crafted collection. He’s the first designer in memory to receive NEWGEN Men sponsorship and a year-long deal to be exclusively stocked at Dover Street Market; fresh from class, Kiko’s talent and drive is one that cannot be tamed. He’s hungry for more. This is just the beginning.
