Kim Kardashian isn’t proud of her short-lived singing career. In 2014, she described her little-known charity single “Jam (Turn it Up)” as her biggest regret in life. Vulture described it as “sounding as if [her vocals] are emanating from a baby that is either very bored or very drugged.” Since then, to the best of our knowledge, she has only hit the mic on two very special occasions: Kris Jenner’s 60th birthday, and an impromptu karaoke session with Kanye West and Barack Obama. Unfortunately only one of those comes with a music video.
“I’ve done karaoke one time,” Kim told The Hollywood Reporter in a video interview, before nonchalantly mentioning the presence of the former leader of the free world. “I could never sing, but it was so cool. It was with Obama, Kanye, and like, maybe 15 people.” She did not elaborate further, other to say that the star-studded singalong was “insane,” making the set list perhaps the most enticing secret in American history. Obama’s own genre-spanning vocals have been lent to Al Green, “Amazing Grace,” and Christmas carols with Chance the Rapper.
Obama and Kimye haven’t exactly had the smoothest relationship. Kim briefly campaigned for Obama in 2007 (see above), however the union took a sharp detour when the former president called West a “jackass” for interrupting Taylor Swift at the 2009 MTV Video Awards, before voicing concerns over this generation’s obsession with Kim’s outfits. In response, Kanye warned Obama to take his baby-mama’s name out of his mouth, before claiming that “Michelle Obama cannot Instagram a [sexy bikini] pic like what my girl Instagrammed the other day.” Ye is yet to offer comment on the former First Lady’s own outstanding karaoke skills.
