Coucou, my immaculate cherubs! While it may be a common belief that August is a month when the entire fashion industry goes on pause, that, my loves, is a lie, as this edition What’s in Fashion? well proves. From knockout campaigns starring the likes of 00s runway icon Daria Werbowy and Kim K to hot AF drops from Dior and Louis Vuitton, this week’s news is a testament to the fact that August is anything but a doldrums. What else lies in store, you ask? Read on and find TF out! Here’s what’s in fashion.
Kim Kardashian is the face of Marc Jacobs AW23 campaign
There are few brands that know how to get us into a tizzy quite like Marc Jacobs, with this week proving why. Why? Well, unless you’ve been on some sort of digital detox, then you’ll have seen their MEGA AW23 campaign starring the one and only Kim Kardashian. Shot by Tyrone Lebon and styled by our very own Alastair McKimm, the images see Kim sporting looks the collection now hitting the stores, with pieces including the cunty Kiki boots, the iconic MJ tote, and some very svelte polka dot gloves. Needless to say, we’ll be getting it all!
HUGO’s AW23 campaign is a celebration of sound
In more major campaign news, German megabrand HUGO dropped their latest image series this week, starring none other than TikTok pop star and all-around internet sensation Bella Poarch. Shot against a vivid scarlet backdrop, the brand’s AW23 campaign — tagged #HugoYourWay — amounts to a celebration of the symbiotic relationship between fashion and music, with the ensemble cast rounded out by a roster of fab emerging talents, including NY-based DJ Ty Ogunkoya. A very, very big vibe!
Daria Werbowy makes a long-awaited return for Gucci
“What? More groundbreaking campaign news??” Yes yes, we know, but trust us — this one is pretty worth it! Again, you’ll probably have already glimpsed this one by now if you have basic internet access, but we’re putting it here anyway — Daria Werbowy is BACK! and it’s not just that; the legendary 00s supermodel — perhaps best known for her seminal, Philo-era Céline campaigns — made her return in perhaps the most iconic way possible, starring as the face of Gucci’s very first campaign under the creative direction of Sabato De Sarno. Dropped on the Italian designer’s Instagram — along with a caption how their relationship extends way back to when they were both starting out in the industry back in 2003 — the David Sims-shot, Alastair McKimm-styled (yes, a busy week for our boss!) image sees the fashion icon channelling immaculate 00s luxe vibes, curled up poolside in little else than a GG-clasp bikini bottom and some dazzling earrings from the house’s forthcoming high jewellery collection. The whole affair, needless to say, is very damn chic, and has us counting down the minutes till Sabato’s Milan Fashion Week debut in September.
Bleach and Heaven show how makeovers should be done
With the end of summer in sight, a seasonal do-over will no doubt be on the cards for some of you. If you’re feeling short on inspiration for what your fresh, AW23 look should be, though, look no further than the bomb-ass campaign that Heaven by Marc Jacobs just dropped to launch their collaboration with iconic London hair salon BLEACH! Featuring shots of street-cast hotties before and after they’ve been outfitted in the oh-so-internet brand’s ensemble of Y2K baby tees, grungy ragged sweaters and chains galore, what really rounds out their looks are their dazzling hairdos, spanning hues of electric green, eye-popping pink, and bloody red valentine. Feeling inspired? Well, you’ll be glad to hear that these poppy tones can be readily achieved on your own head thanks to a new exclusive collab hair dyes, available to buy via BLEACH.
Matches & Sellier bring you the chicest preloved bags around
It’s no news by now that secondhand is oh-so-chic, but there are few proving that point quite as forcefully as pre-owned specialists Sellier. This week, they’ve joined forces with one of our fave shopping destinations, Matches, to deliver an edit of some of the most sought after – and hard to track down – pre-loved luxury accessories around. This first drop, available to shop here, comprises a knockout selection spanning iconic Hermès Birkins, Kellys and Constances, ultra-rare Chanel pieces, glamorous Goyard totes, and even pieces from Louis Vuitton’s instantly viral Supreme collaboration. Form an orderly queue!
Dior launches a series of pop-ups at Harrods
In more stunning shopping news, the venerable house of Dior has just given us all good reason to hotfoot it to Harrods, where they’ve set up not one, not two, but three pop-ups to celebrate the in-store arrival of Maria Grazia Chiuri’s AW23 collection. The first space recreates the cosy atmosphere of a library, and is decked out in Dior’s iconic Plan de Paris motif, while the second offers a cute AF gift shop where you can pick out prezzies that, we can guarantee, will win anyone over. Rounding out the Maison’s takeover of the legendary London department store is a so-called “cabinet of curiosities”, replete with the exquisite leather goods that Dior with universally known for. J’adior!
Introducing Louis Vuitton’s latest it-bag
Louis Vuitton is a house known, above all, for its outstanding assemblage of truly iconic bags – its Speedys, Twists and Capucines. Now, though, there’s a new bag joining its stellar line-up – the GO-14. Originally designed by Nicholas Ghesquière for his debut collection for the house – yes, that’s right, for SS15! – the quilted flap bag has now been reimagined and revived for 2023. Featuring a sleek twist lock and a quilted crisscross pattern in the most supple lambskin, it draws its primary inspiration from the house’s esteemed trunkmaking heritage – in particular the similarly-patterned padding found on the inside of the house’s hardy trunks, intended to protect the wares they hold from the knocks and bumps that a life on the road naturally entails. If its sheer beauty as an object isn’t enough to convince you to sprint down to your local Louis V, then perhaps what will is that it’s already been seen in the elbow crooks of the likes of Cate Blanchett, Sheila Atim and HoYeon. Pretty good company, if you ask us!
