It has been a big decade for Ladyhawke, the musical force has certainly strayed far from her origins in the quiet suburbs of New Zealand. In 2009 we were introduced to her via the gritty-pop anthem My Delirium off her first self-titled album. The track would go on to win single of the year at both the New Zealand and ARIA music awards in 2009.
She followed it up with Anxiety in 2012 and in the four years since she has moved to L.A; got healthy; married actress, comedian and musician Madeleine Sami and is still releasing music true to her independent spirit. The only difference is her new tracks carry an added maturity, complexity and sense of contentment. A Love Song, the first single from her upcoming album Wild Things is a sophisticated and joyous pop song with huge radio appeal.
In the wait for the album’s release on 3 June, Pip has curated a playlist which clearly reveals she is not faithful to any one genre. She explains, “This is a playlist to put on shuffle when you’re on a road trip! These are all songs I love for one reason or another. Each song feels like a nice welcome surprise when it randomly comes on while driving.” Hit play and hit the road.
