lfw: murder on the riviera at j.w. anderson spring/summer 15

Following a very British autumn/winter 14 collection, Jonathan sailed across the channel to France for spring/summer 15. Presenting on his 30th birthday, the designer sent the likes of Binx and Malaika Firth strutting around London’s old CSM building…

“It was important for me to elevate the collection… so this was the first time we did heels.” Jonathan said of taking his womenswear, quite literally, to new heights. “For me it was about being chic, which is the hardest thing, especially for a man. I guess it’s like a voyeurs view of a woman”.

A light-hearted nautical theme prevailed throughout, with backwards sailor trousers – buttons on the back, pockets on the front – and stiff white sail dresses woven with rope. “We developed a lot of fabrics this season in Ireland,” Jonathan told i-D. “I think it’s impossible to make garments if you don’t know exactly what the fabric can do”. Things took a slightly darker turn with the thick yet loose leather gloves, reaching right up to the elbow and presenting themselves as the perfect murder accessory for his femmes fatales. Post-crime, the beauties donned their red leather geometric dresses and gold puzzle piece chokers and enjoyed being by the sea.
