Photographer Lin Zhipeng — known by his friends as 223 — has been on lockdown since January. Based in Beijing, he’s been home alone — mostly cooking and watching movies for the last few weeks. “Now in China, the situation has been controlled, so I can go out for walks in the park,” he says. “But I still cannot travel to other cities and countries.” His work, like many other artists across the world, has been significantly impacted the outbreak. “An exhibition has been delayed for a while as the gallery closed, and I cannot go to my first solo exhibition in Canada,” he says. “It’s hard to gather with friends to shoot as well, I can only work on my new books and sort out my previous works.” But right now, with the lockdown slowly softening in China, he’s grateful to be able to leave the house after so much solitary confinement. “I’m happy outside and it’s flower season now, so it’s not too bad now I can hike in the mountains and in parks with friends.”
