Baltimore-based, by way of Paris and London, the classically trained vocalist brings together R&B and electronica.

Fantastical facial jewellery fan serpentwithfeet has been delighting our eyes with his next level beauty looks on Instagram for time, but now our ears can get in on the action with the release of debut single Flickering.

While showing off the riches of serpentwithfeet’s classical training, the track is far from a BBC radio snoozefest, blending the R&B sensibilities of Brandy and the electronic experimentation of Björk, both name-checked as inspirations, and with production from Björk collaborator Haxan Cloak.

Sharing the album artwork on Instagram, serpectwithfeet writes “YAYYY!! the first days of summer bear a promising fruit !!! beyond thrilled to share my DEBUT SINGLE flickering“. In the release, the artist explains that the record “feels very free because I also feel very free”.

“I don’t feel like being gay restricts me in the same way I also don’t feel like being black restricts me,” he adds in the release notes. “In fact, it only makes me more interesting. Making music has always been about making a space for myself in the world. My theory has always been that if you walk into a room and say, ‘This is my room’ — it’s your room. The End.”
