Who run the gala? Pairs. From the glitter of Kimye to Bella Hadid and the Weeknd, i-D looks at the couples who made us wanna fall in love.

    Kim Kardashian and Kanye West
Kanye is the literally the only man who could rock up to a black tie event in jeans. Why? Because he’s Yeezus. Both were dressed by long-time creative pal Olivier Rousteig in metallic, mirrored, custom Balmain. Kanye confessed that they created Kim’s dress at the eleventh hour—by splicing two separate gowns together. More exciting than their sartiorial choices were their beauty moves. Kanye wore blue contacts, and Kim bleached her brows. A match made in heaven, no?

    Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik
For Gigi and Zayn, this was the first time they would grace the red carpet as an officially-official couple, so it’s no surprise they turned it out. Versace-suited Zayn took the theme as literally as one could, paying apparent homage to ’87 cult classic RoboCop. As for Gigi, she wore her armour over the knuckles. Given her manicure cost $2,000; we’re not surprised she’s wanted to protect it. Love was clearly in the air in New York City on the night, which makes us wonder if the Tin-man really has a heart after all.

    FKA Twigs and Robert Pattinson
There really is nothing more aesthetically pleasing than a clean-cut monochromatic suit. Unless that suit is on Robert Pattinson, and he’s standing next to the illustrious i-D covergirl FKA Twigs—who’s also R-Patz’s bride to be. Dressed in a nude, sheer gown from Versace, FKA brought her Two Weeks video look to the red carpet. Ever untraditional, Twigs didn’t get her bling from Lorainne Shwartz, like most gilded guests. Instead, there were golden face chains and symmetrical tribal tattoos on her hands and back. Can you imagine a dinner party with this pair?

    Bella Hadid and The Weeknd
When you’re slaying inhead to toe midnight black Givenchy, the only accessories you need are a pair of thigh high boots. Just check out Bella Hadid’s Met look for proof. It’s a testament to the power of a simple black dress—her partner Abel Tesfaye, AKA the Weeknd, also went the midnight route. Though Bella’s latex Atsuko Kudo afterparty look didn’t even make it to the carpet, but it was still one of the evening’s best dresses. Abel is a lucky boy.
