There’s just a week to go before the long-awaiting new Star Wars film is released and Oscar winning actor Lupita Nyong’o has been dropping a few hints during American TV appearances. She won’t be the one to give the game away though; answering a question about how hard it is to keep the secrets, N’yongo told Good Morning America that it’s “really easy,” explaining, “You just don’t say anything”!

On another show, Live with Kelly and Michael, Nyong’o said, “I’ll tell you what I’m allowed to tell you… I play a pirate, Maz Kanata, who is a colorful character with an interesting background,” adding that, “The eyes are very important to this character”.

Describing the CGI process as “an opportunity to do something that wasn’t limited by my body,” Nyong’o also says the character development was “a very collaborative process,” adding that “when I signed on to play Maz, she was still evolving and I was excited about the opportunity to be a part of that evolution, which was interesting and rewarding”.

Speaking about her own experience of the franchise, Nyong’o says, “I grew up watching Star Wars. It came on TV when we weren’t in school — on public holidays. So I always related with it being time off from school”. “We only had two channels in Kenya when I was growing up, so everyone watched Star Wars,” she adds, explaining, “So I really didn’t know that there were people who didn’t know about Star Wars“.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is out on 17 December in Australia.
