A mural of pink and white roses was projected on to the Opéra in Paris on Monday night for surely the most romantic event in fashion history, the MAC x Giambattista Valli Flower Obsession Ball. It’s a shame no one was actually getting married, such was the setting, but surely one or two of the beautiful people fell in love last night, behind the century old statues or next to the wall of roses. Susie Bubble had fashioned some sleeves from fresh flowers, Val Garland was the unsung guest of honour – surname on point – Edie Campbell and Lily Donaldson looked like Botticelli Venus twins (non-identical), and Mark Ronson was spinning the golden dancefloor, though showed no signs of floral embrace himself. Hidetoshi Nakata had two flower girls on his arm, Jessica Alba was wearing a flowery gown in addition to her general flower-like beauty, and Michèle Lamy and Naomi Campbell were fabulously flowerless. It was a staggering bunch/ bouquet of people!
The ball followed the stunning Giambattista Valli couture show – where the frothy orange and ceremonial white trains were as long as the night – and marked the launch of Giamba’s make-up collection with MAC, featuring lipsticks named after his muses, including Bianca, Charlotte and Eugenie. More on that to come…
It would have been the wedding of the century.
