In a new exhibit for the upcoming Copenhagen International Fashion Fair, designer Maja Weiss is taking a closer look at the problem with the current fashion cycle. Her installation Second Fashion Cycle will follow a selection of individual garments through their construction stages. Drawing influence from eastern and western art practices, she’s examining aspects of the textile industry that are often hidden, such as recycling and functionality. The piece will urge the viewer to think more deeply about the work, people, and processes behind their clothes.

Speaking to WWD, she commented, “I’m looking forward to being part of yet another talented international team of people and presenting this project that is full of diversity and complexity on so many different levels.”

The project will exist as part of the larger ongoing conversation around the sustainability and practicality of the current fashion calendar; as well as our increasing tendency to see clothing as disposable.
