With the MAN show being one of the first of London Collections: Men on Friday, we took a sneak peak at the three designers’ moodboards to see what they’ve got in store for us. Nicomede Talavera tells us about the nostalgia that informs the collection.
What’s the moodboard image here?
This image is from my MA portfolio, randomly found at the Saint Martins Library. The image has a playful aspect and shows an interesting element to proportion and volume.
What have been the influences on this collection?
The collection is a special one to myself. It’s a progression of previous collections and I was thinking about where my boy is today, what’s developed, what’s new. There are also a lot of unexpected elements that are very personal to me growing up.
What was the funniest/ weirdest/ most interesting part of your research?
Nostalgia played a key part of the research. It was really enjoyable to look back to when I was a teenager and the style nuances that inspired me, then reinterpret them and make them modern. It’s very real and grounded.
Can you describe your preparation for this show in 3 words?
Good vibes, laughing, excitement
Do you feel more established and relaxed now you’re doing MAN second time round?
I feel so grateful for the support from Fashion East and Topman. I feel that there is always a lot to learn from each season, so I don’t feel less pressure. I think I put a lot of pressure on myself to develop each season, which keeps me on my toes.
