Chloë Sevigny is such an icon, her best impersonator — Drew Droege — has become an icon, too. Sevigny is such an icon that Droege is now the star of a Marc Jacobs campaign. We love it.
Marc isn’t holding anything back for his Americana-inspired spring/summer 16 campaign, which stars too many cultural heroes to name. He’s getting meta by casting Drew — an American actor and comedian who first became notorious online for impersonating the ultimate cool girl. In the 15 second Marc Jacob campaign clip, Drew dons his blonde Chloë wig and his voiceover tells the camera he’s mostly inspired by “bayonets, petals on the wind, cabinets, bonnets textures and shapes—only found in Indiana.” He looks very at home tucked behind Christina Ricci.
In case you were wondering, the OG Chloë is aware of this odd homage. She admitted to Out Magazine that despite initially being into it, she’s soured a little: “At first I thought, oh they’re funny. They’re not even really me—they’re these weird art pieces. But I’ve turned a little. I’m slightly offended because he’s calling me pretentious, and I’m not.” We hope Chloë doesn’t lose too much sleep over Drew’s impression—after all, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. And either way, we’ll always love her.
