Marc Jacobs has a very curious relationship with social media. Though two of his most successful campaigns were cast solely through Instagram, at the beginning of the year the designer announced that he was “appalled by the whole social media thing.” A couple of months later he joined Instagram, racking up a hefty 278k followers. The plot thickened last month, when he accidentally posted a nude selfie with the caption “it’s yours to try!” Though he deleted it, it quickly made the rounds online, prompting the designer to post the following message in defiance: “I was flirting with someone I met on Instagram. Meant to send it by DM. Oops, my mistake. I apologize to anyone it offended. I’m a gay man. I flirt and chat with guys online sometimes. BIG DEAL!” In yet another hilarious twist, (although not as funny as his Basic Bitch video, ft. Kate Moss) the designer has uploaded another (non-nude) photo of himself in a t-shirt emblazoned with the words “Themarcjacobs it’s yours to try!” under which he’s written the caption “I mean the t-shirt! Now available (THE T-SHIRT!!!) at a MARC JACOBS store near you,” whether or not this is just one big hoax is still unclear. But whatever, it’s still pretty lols.
