The only crime Taylor Swift is guilty of is singing seriously contagious pop songs – am I right, am I right? But, now a man in Seattle is claiming the singer has stolen his identity. No, it wasn’t her fault, but that doesn’t make life any easier for Washington photographer Taylor Swift.
A few years ago, when he discovered he shared a name with an up-and-coming teen country singer, male Taylor Swift was more impressed than annoyed. He told a local Seattle reporter, “I was kind of like, ‘Okay, I should look into this.’ So I started researching and was like, ‘Okay, she does country music, that’s great. She writes her own music, that’s awesome!'”
But as the musician’s fame grew, so did the confusion. Getting coffee became a low-level ordeal: “When at Starbucks, they ask your name. And you say Taylor, and it’s like ‘Oh, wouldn’t it be funny if your last name was Swift?! It’s like… here’s my debit card, ha ha ha, surprise.” And his photography website became harder and harder to find among the latest news about Other Taylor’s dating life.
But there are perks to receiving mail at taylorswift@gmail.com, he says. (And honestly, kudos to him for not being a troll.) Before he inevitably had to choose a different email address, male Taylor received invitations to yacht clubs and requests to perform at county fairs. Not to mention fan mail. The photographer amassed 539 emails praising his beauty and singing voice.
“It’s a great confidence booster,” he explains. “It’s like endless amounts of “You’re beautiful, you’re so talented, you’re a great role model, you have a beautiful voice, and here I am just like, ‘Oh, thank you!”
