The who, what, and wow of Michael kors autumn/winter 18 collection.

    Who?

Michael Kors delivered a romping, 74-look show, presenting his view on Uptown, Downtown and everywhere in between. To the soundtrack of a megamix that encompassed Aretha Franklin, Britney Spears and the Sex and the City soundtrack (topical), his seemingly endless stream of models paraded through the Lincoln Centre. It was one of the most uplifting shows of the week, replete with smiling models, an incredible amount of sashaying due to platform shoes, and a finale to the sounds of Julie Andrews singing My Favourite Things.

    What?

Kors was exploring the mashup of styles that currently encompasses the way women dress, from pool slides with tracksuits to cocktail dresses with clompy boots. A leopard print coat was paired with a stripy T-shirt and skirt covered in flowers, while another outfit mixed two different plaids and camo. Edie Campbell appeared in a flouncy maxi-dress, Ashley Graham got a pink, furry coat, and Adwoa Aboah looked resplendent in blue polka dots.

    Whom?

Front row were Zendaya and Blake Lively, but just as exciting for fashion folk were the appearances of 90S models Guinevere Van Seenus and Alek Wek on the runway, especially when Wek smiled from cheek to cheek throughout the finale. Smiling — something that seems to only happen at Michael Kors shows.

    Wow!

Apparently the big picture idea was to give women choice. When there isn’t one look to follow, why not just show all of them, at once? Only Kors could pull of the concept to such radical aplomb.
