Missoni have announced their first major UK exhibition: Missoni, Art, Colour will be moving from its original home at the MA*GA Museum in Gallarate, Italy, and opens its new doors at the Fashion and Textile Museum in London on 6 May 2016. This exciting project, in partnership with The Woolmark Company, will hold over 40 paintings by European artists of the 20th Century who have influenced the textile designs of Rosita and Ottavio Missoni, founders of the iconic Italian fashion house. The exhibition also showcases a wide selection of Missoni’s best designs since its founding in 1953, documenting the brand’s artistic (and characteristically zigzagged) journey.

“This is a major exhibition to explore the iconic Missoni fashion house. The mix between fashion and art is always exciting, and this show highlights the important dialogue between post-war Italian artists, designers and industry,” says Celia Joicey, Director of the Fashion and Textile Museum. Luca Missoni — Director of the Missoni Archive, son of the founders, and brother to creative director Angela — also shares his enthusiasm about the exhibition, explaining the great challenges of “rediscover(ing) the potential of our colourful heritage to make unique, positive experiences.” And a very positive experience we are sure it will be!

Missoni, Art, Colour is at the Fashion and Textile Museum 6 May – 4 September 2016. Buy tickets at ftmlondon.org
